Company from Northern Germany takes over Thies Propeller and now also offers solutions for smaller yachts.

Otto Piening GmbH is considered a constant player in the large yacht segment. For many years, the propeller manufacturer from Glückstadt/Elbe has been equipping the world’s largest yachts with its products, all of which bear the “Made in Germany” seal. Piening not only manufactures the pure propellers from naval bronze or nickel-aluminum bronze, but also supplies complete power packages; and offers as a cooperation partner and representative of ZF propellers and stern gears as well as gearboxes for workships. The references of the North German specialist include yachts like “Luna”, “Tatoosh”, “777” or “Graceful” as well as various other yachts from Lürssen.

In order to open up a further market segment and to be able to supply smaller yachts, Otto Piening GmbH took over Thies Propeller from Elmshorn at the end of May. Piening’s Managing Director Mathias Pein evaluates the acquisition as follows: “We have already cooperated with Thies Propeller on several occasions. The fact that we have now been able to integrate the company into Otto Piening GmbH significantly strengthens our position in the semi-custom yacht sector”. Propellers with a diameter of 500 millimeters and more are now also being supplied from Glückstadt. Pein: “With the former Thies portfolio, we can supply yachts between 15 and 30 meters in length. We call the new product line Piening Essential.”

Incidentally, Otto Piening GmbH has been a member of the German Yachts working group for 20 years. Mathias Pein comments on the commitment as follows: “The working group offers networking on a high level. Since all companies are active in a similar segment, the exchange of experience is extremely valuable. From time to time, joint projects are also created”.
