Deutsche Yachten welcomes Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven GmbH as a new member. Deutsche Yachten is made by a number of selected German companies that are active in the build and equipping of yachts of more than 30 metres in length. This working group is part of the German Boat and Shipbuilder’s Trade association DBSV (Deutscher Boots- und Schiffbauer-Verband) in which all relevant companies of the German yachting industry are organised. The aim of the group is to promote yacht-building in Germany and inform about the many services and resources that Germany has to offer this industry. www.deutsche-yachten.de
Currently under construction at Lloyd Werft in Bremerhaven on the North Sea coast of Germany is a +100m mega yacht. This follows the delivery of the very successful 115-metre explorer yacht “Luna” with full ice class, with the exterior design by the German office “newcruise” and an interior by Donald Starkey, as well as several comprehensive re-fits of yachts and cruise-liners.
The shipyard Lloyd Werft looks back to a long tradition of family shipbuilding that has over time developed a wide range of in-house specialist skills and expert knowledge from which, looking forward, every new project benefits today. As well as, of course, from a shipyard facility with almost no limitation in size – after all, the history of the yard goes back to the construction and servicing of the famous Norddeutscher Lloyd Atlantic steamship passenger liners of the late 1800s.
The yard was founded in 1857 together with the Norddeutscher Lloyd who were then entering the at the time new North Atlantic steamship passenger service. Soon, the rivalry on the lucrative North Atlantic route became fierce and to stay ahead of the competition, the ships grew ever larger and faster. In 1899, the then largest dry-dock in the world was inaugurated at Lloyd Werft named after the German emperor. Even then, shipbuilding here was at the cutting edge of the latest technology – in a fine balance of availability on one hand and reliability on the other. This careful yet forward looking approach has served the yard well to this day.
Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven GmbH is located on a site covering more than 260,000 square metres in Bremerhaven’s Überseehafen on the German North Sea coast.
For more than 160 years the name of Lloyd Werft has been associated with building and converting unique ships and with a shipbuilding tradition that has spanned many generations of the same families.
Three large dry and floating docks as well as high-performance workshops and logistics sectors enable the building and conversion of ships with over 300 metres in length and a draught of up to 11 metres.
The international success is based on the following core competences:
– Newbuilding and conversion of mega yachts
– Newbuilding and conversion of cruise ships
– Newbuilding and conversion of special purpose ships
