At Schnaase Interior Design, the company founded by interior architect Birgit Schnaase in 1995,
it is all about the marine aesthetics below deck. Birgit Schnaase’s feel for shape and colour and professional realisation of her interior designs soon opened up the path to success. Along the way the Hamburg interior designer even coined some new styles of her own, as illustrated by the minimalist designs she created for the yachts from Hanse Yachts in Greifswald. Whether working with superyachts, five-star cruise liners or average-sized sailing and motoryachts, Birgit Schnaase and her engineers have become important partners to the shipyards and understand perfectly how to integrate the owners’ wishes into the aesthetics below deck.
Good design aids functionality. This is exemplified by the interior of the 16.5-metre long performance cruiser “Auliana” by Schnaase Interior Design. The owner and his family wish to sail mainly in the Caribbean, and attached equal importance to ease of maintenance and homeliness in the design of the interior. At the same time the yacht’s displacement of just under 15 tonnes must not be exceeded.
There is a reason why Schnaase Interior Design only has female staff. Company founder Birgit Schnaase knows she can rely on woman power and female intuition. Both shape the design and are part of the company’s success. This is particularly clear from the company’s latest work for the yachting agency Drettmann, which reflect the fashion colours of the moment.
The semi-custom motoryachts from Drettmann, such as the Elegance 87 “Daikoku” (photos right), set new directions with their architectonic feel and all of their interior spaces are very homely with their own distinctive character. One is immediately struck by the love of detail which is typical of Schnaase Interior Design.
Birgit Schnaase’s pronounced feel for shape and colour and her creative professionalism are also much in demand in the passenger shipping industry, as can be seen from her designs for the two 135-metre long river cruisers “MS Scenic Emerald” and “MS Scenic Ruby”. Over the past few months she and her co-workers have also been demonstrating their versatility with the interior of the new flagship for Polish yard Delphia, the Delphia 47. The Hamburg designer’s new nautical style is increasingly coveted by home owners. Recently Schnaase Interior Design not only fitted out a dental practice but also designed the rooms of a 400 m2 beach house.
